You need to create such attributes in Products -> Attributes and enable the above option that I mentioned. Unfortunately, with the manually defined attributes via the product’s settings, it will not work.

You can enable the “Additional variations images” option in Theme Settings -> Shop -> Variable products: https://take.ms/aRzS2 and upload and appropriate images to the variations: https://take.ms/MiDHc
Then the images will change by clicking on the swatches.
