This is a default widget from WooCommerce, so please check how it works with some default WordPress themes like WooCommerce Storefront to understand if it is our theme issue or not?

That product categories widget is related to WooCommerce and unfortunately, we cannot customize it as this is beyond our limitations and support policy scope. You can try to find some plugin from WooCommerce or contact with them directly to change that behavior.
