Basel: how to add product attributes (for XML feed)
-
Hi guys,
I am using exisiting product attributes, such as “Product title”, “Product short descriptio” etc for an XML feed. I need to add several extra attributes, such as “Winemaker”, “Vintage”, etc. However I cannot do this: when I add “Custom Prodict Attribute” for a Product (and “Save”, “Update”), the it does not become available in the Feed. There is only one PRoduct attribute which is available (“Color”).
How can I add new attributes?
I am using the Woo Feed plugin which is recommended by Google.
Thanks for your help!
Hello,
Have you tried to add global attributes? You need to go to the Products > Attributes > Create an attribute and configure the items.
Then go to each product and chose the attribute from the drop-down list. We have not tested Woo Feed plugin, but it should to work with global attributes.
Custom attributes are used vary narrowly.

Elise,
thanks, I tried that, does not work. I can make only 2 types of attributes
– Color
– Custom product attribute

IS “Color” a Global attribute? If I choose “Color”, I cannot change how its name, it is hard-wired. It has a pre-defined list of “Black”, “Brown” and “Blue”. https://ibb.co/9tswY1r
I can see the attribute “Color” available in the Feed https://ibb.co/xYwXGsM. But currently it is of no use for me (Black/Brown/Blue makes no sense). So, if I could make attribute in addition to “Color” myself this would be super. How can I do it?
It feels that there is a setting that does not allow me to change Global attribtes, do you know how I can unlock it?
Thank you
Oleg
Hello,
You need to create an attribute in Product > Attributes. As soon as you add an Attribute, you will find the option, Configure items, you can add more colors to the existing or if it is a new attribute add the items you need. More details here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/managing-product-taxonomies/
Custom attributes are effective only on the product page.

Elise, thank you, it worked fine!
I missed the “Attribute” on the left 🙂
working on creating a feed now, everything should be fine now!
You are welcome! If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
