Changing existing product to Downloadable

I’ve reviewed the support document here:

But I wasn’t able to find the answer. Is it possible to add download to an existing product? Or would I need to create a new one?

The instructions provided in the Woocommerce documentation is clear and you can make products downloadable by clicking the Downloadable option by editing a product.

The issue is that the product needs to be a Variable Product, and there’s no download option for that. Is there a way around that?

I saw the screenshot you attached.
You can set the variations downloadable by editing them as mentioned in the documentation.

Otherwise there is no option in Theme Settings available because the products are woocommerce functionality and our theme doesn’t influence.
