Add to cart slide out cart widget does not appear

When a customer clicks “add to cart” the desired slide out cart widget does not appear even though it is enable in the theme options. Instead, users are brought to cart page which I don’t prefer. How can this be fixed? I prefer the slide out cart be shown as in the demos when users add an item to the cart.
