wildguitarsParticipantGreetings to the wonderful xtemos support team; I hope you’re all doing well.
Recently we’ve been receiving complaints from customers that the search feature on our website is unbearably slow – over 30 seconds from the moment you hit enter until the results show. I contacted the developer of the search plugin that we use (Ajax Search Pro) and he immediately proved to me that the issue isn’t with his plugin – he instructed me to bypass his plugin by simply using the url https://www.wildguitars.co.il/?s=XXXXXX&post_type=product which is a WooCommerce search and not a standard WordPress search. The results were the same.
We duplicated our live website to a staging website for further diagnosis, and I discovered that when I switch to the Twenty Twenty Two theme, the search results are immediate. I tried the WoodMart parent theme as well (I know you always recommend doing this) and the results still took over 30 seconds.
Please see the following video that I’ve recorded for you: https://we.tl/t-oyLquMxpFf
I have provided all of the information you need to access our staging website, in the private content.
I’d appreciate your urgent assistance with this matter, as you know that a good search engine is pretty much the core of every successful website.
Thanks,
TomJuly 27, 2022 at 3:24 am #393747
Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Please make the full backup of your site, and update all the plugins in Appearance > Install plugins.
Please deactivate all the plugins except these ones:
Slider Revolution
WPBakery Page Builder
Woodmart Core
Contact Form 7
MailChimp for WordPress
WooCommerce
Safe SVGIf the problem has gone, activate the plugins one by one, checking the issue to detect which one causes the problem.
Best Regards

wildguitarsParticipantHi Elise,
Thanks as always for your prompt reply.
All of the plugins in Appearance > Install plugins were updated. We don’t use Slider Revolution and Elementor so these plugins aren’t installed.
I disabled all of the plugins except the ones that you specified , and the search took 27 seconds with the parent theme. When I switched to the Twenty Twenty Two theme, the search took 2 seconds.
Best regards,
TomJuly 28, 2022 at 12:33 am #393964
Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Did you check the search without other plugins not related to the theme?
Best Regards
July 28, 2022 at 10:06 am #394028
wildguitarsParticipantHi Elise,
The search speed is not affected by the plugins whatsoever; I tried enabling/disable everything one by one and all together. Again – when switching to the Twenty Twenty Two them the search is lightning fast, even when all of the plugins are enabled on as usual.Best regards,

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
I see the influence of other plugins. That is why I ask you to deactivate all the plugins and check how it works. You can compare how the search works on our demo: https://woodmart.xtemos.com/shop/ and compare on your site.
Please check with deactivated plugins.
Best Regards

wildguitarsParticipantHi Elise, I have disabled all plugins except for WooCommerce and Woodmart Core on our staging website, and the search still takes around 30 seconds. Please make sure you are on our staging site (https://dev.wildguitars.co.il) and not our live site.
Best regards,

wildguitarsParticipantHi Elise,
You are correct, it’s because I turned off the plugin that changes the admin login URL. Please see the correct URL in the private content.Apologies for the inconvenience.

wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem, good to hear from you.
It looks like our hosting company blocks non-Israeli IP addresses by default, for security purposes. In the hopes that you have a static IP address, can you please provide it in the private content so that they may whitelist it?Best regards,

wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem, your IP address has been whitelisted.
August 3, 2022 at 5:58 pm #395358
Artem TemosKeymasterIt is slow because you have 70 widgets in the sidebar and they are not properly cached by WooCommerce on the search page. You need to reduce this number at least for the search sidebar.
August 3, 2022 at 8:31 pm #395369
wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem, thank you for looking into this.
The odd thing is, though, that the exact same number of widgets are enabled on our other staging site, and the search is perfectly fine there. Please check out https://dev2.wildguitars.co.il
I can give you admin access if necessaryWe actually don’t need any sidebar widgets for the search, as there is no sidebar in the search results at all. How can I disable these widgets?
Best regards,
TomAugust 4, 2022 at 9:07 am #395423
Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
You can create a Theme Settings preset and disable the sidebar for the search page. Read our documentation here https://xtemos.com/docs-topic/theme-settings-presets/
Kind Regards

wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem, the sidebar seems to already be disabled on our website, at least it’s hidden because I don’t see it (screenshot attached).
Also, we have a “Dynamic Widgets” plugin installed that has an option to turn widgets on and off on the search page (screenshot attached). Will this have the same effect?
Finally, what are your thoughts on the fact that our staging website (https://dev2.wildguitars.co.il) has all of the widgets enabled and doesn’t suffer from the search speed issue?
Best regards,
TomAttachments:

Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
Yes, the sidebar is disabled on dev2 and that is why it works faster there. You need to disable it in the same way for your dev website because it is still active there.
Kind Regards

wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem,
On dev.wildguitars.co.il I went through all 70 of the widgets in the “Shop page Widget Area” are of the Dynamic Widgets plugin, and switched the “Show widget on the search page?” option from Yes to No. Then I cleared the cache.
I don’t see any improvement in the search results speed, still over 25 seconds. Was the action that I performed not supposed to solve the issue? Honestly I don’t know how to disable the sidebar. Can you please provide further assistance?
Thanks,

wildguitarsParticipantHi Artem,
This absolutely solved the issue, thank you for finding this.
I’m afraid I’m having some difficulty with implementing it on our live site. May I ask for your assistance with this?

Artem TemosKeymasterDone. Please, check how it works now.

August 5, 2022 at 4:58 pm #395796
wildguitarsParticipantThe search is very fast now, thanks Artem!
I see that the product sorting section has changed, though. Please see the attached screenshots of the sorting on our secondary website (dev2.wildguitars.co.il) which is the correct type, and the sorting on the live site which has changed.

Artem TemosKeymasterYes, because we have disabled the Filters area also. That is why the default WooCommerce sorting widget is now displayed.
Kind Regards
