I am checking Appearance > Themes and Ido not find any errors related to the theme. Could you kindly advise how I can reproduce the error? Please make the full backup of your site I will try to reload the parent theme.

I have paid for the premium version and am trying to upgrade from 1.0.0 to the 6.4 or whatever the latest is that I get from downloads in my account. I get the error when I try and upload that zip file for the upgrade.

Now you have activated the child them and it is always 1.0.0 it is never updated. The destination of the child theme is to keep the customization if any. The parent theme nevertheless should always be updated.
