Product Image Quality & Size

What is the best product image size to choose to retain image quality across mobile, tablet and widescreen desktop monitors ? Also when I open a product image via the URL link the image can look fine but when viewed on the store it looks like it has lost some sharpness, how can I improve this ?

Try to regenerate your images through the “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin, after installing navigate to Dashboard -> Tools -> Regenerate Thumbnails, there regenerate images by clicking on the “Regenerate Thumbnails For All Attachments” button.
