We are using two Google fonts in our Theme Settings under Typography. Those fonts are being called from Google. We also have Font Awesome installed for some icons.

We are running a speed test on our site using webpagetest.org and it shows the following flagged result as problematic:

5 fonts are hosted on 3rd-party hosts

Fonts on 3rd party domains may take longer to load due to DNS and connection steps that are not necessary when fonts are hosted on the same domain.

    https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/lato/v23/S6uyw4BMUTPHjx4wXiWtFCc.woff2
    https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/itim/v10/0nknC9ziJOYe8ANAkOzaZwQ.woff2
    https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/lato/v23/S6u9w4BMUTPHh6UVSwiPGQ3q5d0.woff2
    https://use.fontawesome.com/releases/v6.0.0/webfonts/fa-brands-400.woff2
    https://use.fontawesome.com/releases/v6.0.0/webfonts/fa-solid-900.woff2

Can you provide instructions for if and how we can have these fonts on our server to try to eliminate these calls to fonts.gstatic.com and use.fontawesome.com to see if that helps speed up our site?

With regard to the Google Fonts, if we can use them on our server, would we have to set them up in the Custom Fonts section to make sure the versions on our server are used? If we then choose only fonts that are hosted on our server, should that then eliminate any calls to fonts.gstatic.com by our site? Or will that domain still be called by virtue of having Google Fonts present as options with your theme?

We’re trying to eliminate every issue being flagged by the speed test site because our site is seriously bloated with plugins and needs all the speed help it can get. I’ve managed to improve our site speed grade at another speed test site called gtmetrix.com from an E grade to a B grade so far, but I’d like to achieve an A grade.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

    Hello,

You can upload your fonts as a custom via Theme Settings -> Typography -> Custom Forns, also you should add for the font’s name some prefix (e.g -local).

So as a result your fonts will be loaded from your server.

The Font Awesome is not connected via the theme, in your case, the Elementor connects it.

    Kind Regards
