How to make my slider wider than rest of page

I have the layout set to full width as I like this setting for category and product pages etc… but I would like to enable the slider on the home page to spill out left and right if possible. I have tried some various CSS and I have been able to manipulate it some but not to what I am trying to accomplish.
Example of what i want to try to mimic for slider on our current site (though on the new I dont want the head and footer contents to expand infinitely – http://www.saltycritter.com

Unfortunately I had to migrate the staging site to the current live site due to an issue with the old theme after a wordpress update I applied which is why the old live site I am trying to replicate is not viewable now.
The slider image is wider than is displayed currently and I would just like to see if can make this spill out left and right from its constraints.
I tried the wayback machine but the slider does not load properly sometimes to show there but can try this

Can you take a look at this again now. The current site is saltycritter.com. The screenshot you took along with the archive site was the old theme. I am trying to somewhat replicate the ability for the slider to extend further left and right on the current site as it did on the old.

And the slider would be full-width.
