The “correct” way to translate HTML Blocks?

I use WoodMart + WPML to translate my shop (it’s still in development).

I created the footer in “HTML Block” and added it via “Theme settings -> Footer -> Content -> Footer content.” There, I selected “HTML Block” option and the corresponding block ID.

I translated the “Footer” block with WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor, and the translated version is automatically shown when I switch to the Slovenian site.

Since I prefer the WordPress Editor, I restored the staging site and translated the Footer HTML block again by using the WP Editor. However, this created a new block with a new ID, and when I switched to the Slovenian version, the footer text remained in English.

In this case, would I need to go to “Theme settings -> Footer -> Content -> Footer content” and select the new, Slovenian ID for the Slovenian footer, and then the English ID for the English footer?

I’d like to keep things as robust as possible, so if translating HTML Blocks with the Advanced Translation Editor is recommended, I’ll stick to that. But if WP Editing is also fully supported, it would be good to know.

Hello,

For this, you have to translate the Theme Settings >> -> Footer -> Content -> Footer content from the WPML >> String Translation Section.

If you will not find the string, then please go to WPML >> String Translation >> Click the scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Translate texts in admin screens link. https://cdn.wpml.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/translate-texts-in-admin-screens.png

This will take you to a searchable list of admin strings. Find the Words that you want to translate and then select those words and add them to the string Translation then you will go to the WPML >> String Translation >> then find and translate them into other languages.

Otherwise, if the issue still exists then please share the WP admin login details of your site so I will check and give you a possible solution.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I don’t see the option mentioned in the screenshot. Judging by the date of it, it may be from an older version of the WPML.

I’d kindly ask you to log in to my site (I’ve provided the credentials in the private windows) and check what would be the best way to translate HTML Blocks.

I found that the best approach is to first translate the block using WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor, then refine the translation in the WordPress Editor.

Still, I’m not sure if this is the best or the correct way to do it. I ask because I don’t want to experience any issues later on.

Hi again,

I did some more testing and it seems that translating first with the WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor is not needed. I can Edit the HTML Block, choose WP Editor, choose Slovenian, copy texts from the English version and translate them. When I save the changes, it works.

Can you please confirms that this way is 100% compatible with WoodMart?

You can test whatever you want on the staging version, there won’t be any permanent damage and I made a backup, too.

Hello,

Yes, this is also compatible. This way is more secure to translate the HTML blocks, you can use the WordPress Editor for the HTML block translation.

If it is working for you, then no need to test it more.
