Translating brands with WPML

    Hello. I’m having an issue with translating brands. We are using the WPML plugin for multilingual support.

    At the moment, all three languages are translated, but the brands behave as if they were separate entities. This means that when I assign a brand like “Bosch” to a product, WPML creates translated copies of that brand in other languages, and the original (correct) Bosch brand is not shown in those languages. I hope you understand what I mean

    How should I translate the brands correctly so that they remain linked and functional across all languages, and so that the logos are also carried over to the other languages?

    I’m attaching an image that shows how WPML is creating these duplicates.

    Hello,

    You should translate brands as a translatable taxonomy in WPML and connect each language version of a brand as translations of the same term, not as separate brands.

    Check the brand’s taxonomy settings:

    – Go to WPML → Settings → Taxonomies Translation and find the taxonomy your brands use (often product_brand, yith_product_brand, or from “WooCommerce Brands”).

    – Set it to Translatable – only show translated items (or the other “Translatable” option, but not “Not translatable”).

    Translate brands correctly:

    – Go to WPML → Taxonomy Translation (or WooCommerce → WooCommerce Multilingual → Custom Taxonomies → Brands, depending on your setup).

    – For each original brand (e.g. Bosch), use the plus (+) icon to add the translation, or the pencil icon to edit an existing translation, so WPML links them as one term across languages instead of creating unrelated copies.

    Fix existing duplicated brands:

    – Identify which Bosch is the “main” one (correct logo, slug, products) in your default language.

    – For other language rows in Taxonomy Translation, either:

    – Edit them via the pencil and make sure they are set as the translation of the main Bosch term; or

    – Delete the wrong duplicates, then click + next to the main Bosch row to create fresh translations that WPML links automatically.

    Keep logos/images in all languages:

    – Ensure the brand logo is set on the brand in the default language.

    – In WooCommerce Multilingual → Settings → Multilingual Content Setup, enable Sync taxonomy parents and thumbnail images so that brand thumbnails/logos are automatically copied to all translations.

    Assigning brands to products:

    – Edit a product in each language and assign the translated Bosch term (the one that is linked in Taxonomy Translation), not a standalone Bosch term created in that language.

    – Once terms are linked and synced, selecting Bosch in one language will show the correct brand (and logo) on the other language versions of the product.
