Is it possible to display the text “Available” on the individual product page when the product is in stock, and “Out of Stock” in red when it is not?
Hello,
Navigate to Products > All Products > Edit a product > Product data > Inventory and enable Stock management if needed. Set the stock status properly (In stock / Out of stock).
Once configured, the stock label will display automatically. You can change the stock status design from Theme Settings > Single product > Elements > Stock status design.
If you want to change the “In stock” text to “Available”, you can use the Loco Translate plugin to translate/replace that string.

For showing Out of stock in red, please make sure inventory is configured and then share the product page URL so we can check the styling and guide you.

I don’t want the number of units in stock to be displayed. I only want the word “Available” to be shown when the product is in stock and “Out of Stock” when it’s out of stock.

Please navigate to WooCommerce -> Settings -> Products -> Inventory and choose the “Stock display format” Never show quantity remaining in stock: https://snipboard.io/a3t2MB.jpg
This will remove the number of units and keep only the stock status.
If you want to rename “In stock” to “Available”, you can do it using a loco translation plugin:
