Outdated version of WoodMart being used because of a Child theme

    Hiya, we had a site built a long time ago, and it uses a child theme. I’ve tried to update to the latest version of Woodmart and all the formatting gets messed up. Is there any way to use the child theme with the latest edition of Woodmart please ? I think it’s really slowing the website down. Thank you so much for your help!

    Hello,

    Yes, you can use a child theme with the latest version of WoodMart.

    The issue usually comes from outdated custom code or template overrides in the child theme.

    Please try switching to the parent theme—if everything works fine, then the child theme needs to be updated accordingly.

    Hi, sorry I explained that really badly. Can you see why the current child theme… PlusW can’t run the latest version of Woodmart, please? I’ve tried everything, and the formatting goes all over the place. I’ve tried setting up new child themes and carrying over the code, but it completely messes up the styling as shown in the screenshots.

    Hello,

    I have checked your setup.

    The issue is caused by your PlusW child theme, which is based on a very old version (v3.0.0), while you are trying to use it with the latest WoodMart (v8.4.1). This version gap is too large, so many styles and structures are no longer compatible, which is why the layout breaks.

    When you switch to a fresh/default child theme, the styling works correctly, which confirms the issue is coming from outdated code in the PlusW child theme.

    Do not use the old PlusW child theme directly. Create a new child theme based on the latest version, Then carefully copy only the necessary custom code (CSS, functions, templates) step by step.

    Thank you, that makes sense! I’ve tried to do this, but it’s beyond my skill set because when I transfer the styling it just screws up the site. Do you have anybody that might be able to quote for this? We will happily pay if you have any recommendations. It’s got to the point where the site is really slow, and we need to somehow get the update in place. Thank you so much, Roger

    Since your current child theme is based on a much older version of WoodMart, rebuilding it properly does require careful work (reviewing old overrides, cleaning outdated code, and reapplying styles correctly). This can definitely be tricky if you’re not used to working with child themes.

    Rebuild child theme based on latest WoodMart, Migrate only necessary custom CSS, functions, and template overrides and remove outdated code causing conflicts and Optimize performance during the process.
