Elementor Update Causes Memory Exhaustion

    Hello,

I am having a serious issue with my WordPress website using the WoodMart theme.

The problem started after I updated Elementor. I later downgraded Elementor to the previous version, but the issue still persists.

Whenever I enable Elementor or perform Elementor-related actions, the website crashes shortly afterwards. The PHP error log repeatedly shows:

    “Allowed memory size exhausted”

What is interesting is that I increased the PHP memory_limit from 256 MB to 1 GB and later to 2 GB, but the problem still occurs. Therefore, this does not seem to be simply a lack of available memory.

In the logs, I found a repeated execution chain that looks like this:

    Elementor → Flexbox → WoodMart WD_Mega_Menu → wp_nav_menu → WoodMart Mega Menu → HTML Block → Elementor

It appears that this chain may be recursively rendering itself, eventually consuming all available PHP memory.

I have already deleted the related Mega Menu/HTML Block content in WoodMart, but the website still crashes when Elementor is enabled.

There are also some EWWW Image Optimizer warnings such as:

    “Undefined array key dirname”

    and occasionally:

“WordPress database error: Server shutdown in progress”

However, the recurring Allowed memory size exhausted errors appear to be the main issue.

I have also temporarily disabled Redis Object Cache while troubleshooting the problem.

Could you please help me investigate the following?

    1. Is there a known compatibility issue between the current WoodMart version and Elementor?
    2. Could there be a recursive rendering / infinite loop issue involving WoodMart Header Builder, Mega Menu, and Elementor after the Elementor update?
    3. Why would the problem persist even after downgrading Elementor?
    4. Could there be a database entry, cached Elementor data, or WoodMart Header Builder configuration that needs to be cleared or reset?
    5. What would be the safest way to diagnose and fix this issue without losing my existing website content and design?

I can also provide the complete PHP debug/error log if needed.

Since the problem started immediately after the Elementor update, I would especially appreciate it if you could investigate the Elementor + WoodMart interaction and the recurring memory exhaustion.

I could switch to Gutenberg instead of Elementor; that’s not a problem. Will my site break significantly during the transition? Or should I import a new theme after switching to Gutenberg? Of course, that would mean I’d have to redesign the site, right?

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

Please provide temporary WordPress administrator and FTP access so we can investigate the memory exhaustion and check the Elementor, Mega Menu, and Header Builder configuration.

Also, please include the exact steps required to reproduce the crash. Submit all credentials securely through the Private Content field; they will not be visible publicly.

    Kind regards,

I think I’ve resolved the mega menu issue; I deleted the HTML block. My only problem now is that my site crashes whenever I open Elementor.

    1) Activate Elementor from the plugins list.
    2) Go to the homepage: harmotif.com.
    3) The site starts loading but then stops, displaying a “critical error” message. At this point, I observe that all 4 cores of my server are maxed out and RAM usage hits around 7GB. This is abnormal behavior.

When resource usage spikes like this, my server grinds to a halt, and I can’t even access the admin panel.
To fix this, I log into my hosting provider’s panel and restart the server; as soon as it comes back online, I immediately go to WordPress (without opening harmotif.com) and deactivate Elementor. The server then stabilizes, though naturally, the site’s design breaks. If I open harmotif.com or the shop page again, resource usage spikes once more.
There are no issues in the admin panel since no design work involving Elementor is taking place there.

    Hi there,

Please temporarily deactivate all plugins that are not required to reproduce the issue, then check whether the crash still occurs with Elementor enabled.

If possible, also provide SSH access to your server so we can monitor CPU and memory usage while reproducing the problem. Please submit the access details securely through the Private Content field.

    Kind regards,

I disabled all the extensions and it was fixed when I turned them back on 😀
I spent hours reading logs and struggling with it for nothing.

I don’t have any issues for now; thank you 🙂
