AmitParticipantHello,
I have been using Woodmart for a month now and have been very pleased with its features and performance. However, I recently updated WooCommerce to version 9.6.0, which has introduced the brand Taxonomy enabled by default.
As Woodmart already provides a brand attribute, I believe the WooCommerce brand taxonomy may not be necessary in my setup. Could you kindly guide me on how to disable the woocommece brand tax feature?
For your reference, here is the WooCommerce brand changelog: [WooCommerce GitHub Pull Request #53083](https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/pull/53083). I’ve also attached an image for additional context.
I appreciate your assistance and look forward to your guidance.

Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
Thank you very much for the feedback. To use WooCommerce brand’s taxonomy you just need to deselct custom attribute for brand in our Theme Settings. Then, our theme will use WooCommerce’s brand to display all over the website.
Kind Regards

AmitParticipantHello,
Thank you for your prompt response and clarification. However, I currently have more than 100 brands in my brand attribute, and I am exploring two possible solutions to address my needs:
Migrating brand attributes to taxonomy: Could you please guide me on how to migrate the existing brand attributes (from Woodmart) to the new WooCommerce brand taxonomy?
Disabling WooCommerce brand taxonomy: If I prefer to continue using the Woodmart brand attribute instead of the WooCommerce brand taxonomy,
Could you advise on the proper steps and which solution would be best ? while ensuring there are no conflicts or issues on my website?
I truly appreciate the assistance provided so far and look forward to your detailed guidance to help finalize this configuration.

Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
There is no automatic transfer, unfortunately. But you can continue using our theme’s brand functionality and just don’t create any brands using WooCommerce taxonomy.
Kind Regards

AmitParticipantHowever, I want to confirm if the link to WooCommerce mentioned that, starting from version 9.6.0, the brand tax is enabled by default. If so, is there a way to disable it as well?

Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
Yes, it is enabled by default and you can’t disable it. But you can just continue using custom attribute for this and leave this taxonomy empty.
Kind Regards

AmitParticipantHello Artem,
I understand. I have one final question: Could you please explain the difference between Brand Attribute and Brand Taxonomy? If I choose to use taxonomy, what benefits will I gain, and what potential drawbacks should I consider? Similarly, for Brand Attribute, what are its advantages and disadvantages? Your guidance will help me make a better-informed decision about whether to use taxonomy or attributes in the future.

Artem TemosKeymasterAt the moment, there is no difference at all. For all new websites, we recommend using WooCommerce brands. But it is not necessary to make this manual migration in your case.

AmitParticipantHello, I recently migrated my brands to WooCommerce Taxonomy. However, I am unable to find an option to create template settings for the brand taxonomy page.
To clarify my issue, I have attached an image for reference. I would appreciate any guidance on how to set up a template for the brand taxonomy page.
Looking forward to your support.
