Is there a way I could put a few sentences of text between the title and the blog posts, like introduction text?

Sorry there is no option in theme settings available for that. you need to edit the page title itself.

I tried to put text into the actual page but it didn’t render on the front end, see attachment. What file would I look for in order to hardcode it (child theme)?

Sorry, this is not possible with the PHP code changes as well. If you want to add the content on the blog page before the posts then you have to use the Elementor pro plugin then you can create the page with the Archive post Elementor widget on the page.

Otherwise, this is not possible.
