categories do not appear in chosen order

Hi, I’m using the product categories widget on the home page. I select menu order and place the pretend category first, musicals, games, vehicles and babies as subsequent categories. The view does not match the order I chose. Displays only in ascending and descending order. How can I adjust? Grateful
