Categories menu in the side bar

Hi!
Please precise how to properly insert Categories menu in the side bar so that it would look the same as in the home page (left side?) I inserted the menu but it looks bad – long list with no HTML blocks. If HTML is not possible here I have mobile menu also ready, but I want to make subcategories collapsed by default.

Pictures attached – Picture1 is the best I can get from Category menu (now I removed it from the Layout) and Picture2 – is what I would like to see instead. The same menu but totally different view.
