khongypParticipantHi,
I have set blog layout in Theme Setting – Blog to 2 Column Right. But when i go to Post-Categories and view the individual category page the sidebars are blank. The single post page is showing the sidebar correctly, just the category page is showing blank.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Saying “Blog” you actually mean portfolio.
You have created a page, insert the portfolio element and the sidebar you show on the screen appears on blog page by default, but in order to show it on the portfolio page, you need to set it in the page settings https://gyazo.com/de317c3cd6cac669e6a50c08507b2384
The same for separate projects https://gyazo.com/b23d3847da6ac8b1e74b052a0196e0a5

khongypParticipantNo, i mean Blog NOT Portfolio. Login to the backend and go to Post – Categories, go select and view any one of the category for example Event. You will see the sidebar is blank.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
You have not created a page for blog and have not set it as a blog: http://prntscr.com/ldit0x
I have created a test page and set. Next, I have set the sidebar in this page in the page settings: http://prntscr.com/lditin
Now your category page has the sidebar.

khongypParticipantThanks. But why this test site doesn’t have a blog page and the post categories still able to show sidebar? It also not set as a blog in Setting – Reading.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
I have created “test” page to check. I see it works. Delete the test page, set your blog page in the settings > reading > and set the sidebar location and size.

khongypParticipantIs this a requirement that in order for post categories to show sidebar you must create and set a blog page? Or this is a workaround solution?
November 2, 2018 at 1:47 pm #86826
Elise NoromitMemberHello,
You set the blog page in Settings > Reading as Hompage it is WordPress procedure.
Next, you configure the blog page sidebar and it will work on category pages.

khongypParticipantI tried switching to wordpress twenty sixty theme and i did not set a blog page but the post categories are able to show sidebars. Only when i use woodmart that it is not able to show and need to set a blog page. I have used other themes before and none of them have this requirement. I have setup another test site which i ask you to take a look (http://www.jeansheart.alphawebdemo.info/category/decoration/) and this test site also do not need to set a blog page.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
twenty sixty theme does not provide the option to set or disable sidebars.
If you want page to show your posts you need to set the page in the settings regardless of the theme.
If you want to set sidebar you need to do what I have written above.
Please clarify your problem now.
Best Regards

khongypParticipantI just don’t understand that why this site http://www.jeansheart.alphawebdemo.info/category/decoration/ does not need to do the steps which you suggested below and yet this site can display sidebar on categories page without problem. Please login and take a look. It does not have such settings.
“You set the blog page in Settings > Reading as Hompage it is WordPress procedure.
Next, you configure the blog page sidebar and it will work on category pages.”

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Navigate to the Theme Settings > Blog you will see that you have configured the right small sidebar http://prntscr.com/lduzer so, now all the categories pages have the sidebar on the right
Now have a look at your menu, http://prntscr.com/lduzvz this page does not show the posts from all the categories. In order to configure this page to show all the posts from all the categories you need to go to Settings > Reading > set this page as “Post page” http://prntscr.com/ldv09j
Best Regards

khongypParticipantHi,
“Navigate to the Theme Settings > Blog you will see that you have configured the right small sidebar http://prntscr.com/lduzer so, now all the categories pages have the sidebar on the right”
Yes your are right, for this site i ONLY need to configured the right small sidebar https://prnt.sc/lduzer and the categories pages is able to show the sidebar. As you can see from the Settings > Reading that there is NO blog page selected, and yet the categories page is able to show sidebar. I did not set a blog page on Settings > Reading because i do not need a blog page to show all the blog. I just want the categories page to show sidebar.
My question is why these exact settings doesn’t work on http://www.jeansheart1.alphawebdemo.info/category/event1/? Why this site NEED to set a blog page on Settings > Reading so that categories page are able to show sidebar?
Why this site http://www.jeansheart.alphawebdemo.info/category/decoration/ DO NOT NEED to set a blog page but the categories able to show sidebar ?
Thanks

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
The difference was in Blog Design settings: http://www.jeansheart.alphawebdemo.info/category/decoration/ this site was configured for Chess, and this site was configured for Masonry:
http://www.jeansheart1.alphawebdemo.info/category/event1/As soon as you change the design the categories pages have the sidebar without setting a page as the blog page in the Settings > Reading.
Best Regards

khongypParticipantThanks for providing the answer. Hope it gets fixed in the next update. Masonry is the only design that need to set a blog page. Other designs are working fine.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
The sidebar is not enabled with the Masonry design. It is not a bug it is the way this design works.
Best Regards

khongypParticipantI hope you would consider to make Masonry the same as the rest, to have the option of not setting a blog page.
