Color attributes showing weirdly in product preview in catalog

Hello there

Before the color attributes were showing just as picture circles under products in the ‘catalog’ view, but now it’s a weird text/image solution? Hope you can help find a quick fix. The products itself are showing attributes normally (with circle images).

The information you provided is very weird. You can’t expect me to add an image of a grey cap for the color ‘grey’ which is used for a hundred other products that are not caps.

What I was trying to explain is this:
Let’s take one certain product for example: https://en.ssone.ee/product/teddy-mini-beltbag/
Now if I remove ”Attribute dropdown will be replaces with squared buttons” for the color black and offwhite, the product view in the catalog shows like this (screenshot also attached): https://en.ssone.ee/product-category/accessories/bags/page/2/

So there must be some kind of workaround via code for this. Otherwise we just spent changing the attribute settings for 800 color attributes for no reason because in another thread you told me that it’s not possible to have colors show as images in any other way.

When you add an image to the attribute item, the swatches will show the image from your product variation. No matter what image you add. You can add one and the same transparent image to all attribute items.

Unfortunately, there is no code to add images in bulk.

You should really consider adding all of this information regarding use of color attributes to your documentation. We could’ve added a random image to all attributes when we were marking the enable square and now we have to do it again for 800 attributes.

What are the options to hide this preview in the catalog or have something else in the?
