nordlifeelinaParticipantI use a plugin called Woocommerce Pre-Orders. This Plugin doesn’t allow preorder items and regular item to be put into cart at the same time, and it used to give an error message about this “This item can’t be added to cart as it needs to be purchased separately” or something similar.
I have contacted WooCommerce about this and they advised me to test it with a different theme. I activated the Storefront theme and went through the same preorder + regular item scenario and I DID get the error messages then. When I went back and installed just your PARENT THEME, I didn’t get the message.
Is it possible that the theme is somehow suppressing error messages from WooCommerce?

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Our theme does not influence the Woocommerce functionality, including messages. You say you have switched to the parent theme and see no errors, did you use the child theme before? Perhaps your customization could influence.
Best Regards

nordlifeelinaParticipantHi Elise,
I do not get the error message with Parent or Child theme, but I do get it with a totally different theme, such as Storefront, which makes me think it’s the theme.
I tested – I only swapped from Basel to Storefront (didn’t touch any plugin or configuration). Storefront shows the message properly, Basel doesn’t.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Please confirm the permit to deactivate all the plugins not related to the theme and switch the parent theme for the period of checking what may take up to 20 minutes.
Best Regards

nordlifeelinaParticipantCan you do this on our staging server if I take a fresh copy of the site and give you logins?
We have customers on the site, I can’t unfortunately let you turn off plugins/swap theme for 20 minutes..

nordlifeelinaParticipantHi Elise,
That’s not the issue I was having, please read below.
I use a plugin called Woocommerce Pre-Orders. This Plugin doesn’t allow preorder items and regular item to be put into cart at the same time and it is meant to give an error message saying “This product can not be added to your cart because it contains a pre-order, which must be purchased separately”.
This is what it is meant to be doing. It is not doing it anymore with BASEL theme. When I swap to a different theme (Storefront), the error message is there (See screenshot).
To replicate this, please:
1. Put a pre-order item in your cart – https://www.nordlife.com.au/product/baby-nest-grey-wave/2. Now try adding another item, this one: https://www.nordlife.com.au/product/baby-changing-mat-grey-wave/
Do you see an error message about not being able to add the second item? Now please see the screenshot of the error message that is meant to show (and it works with a different theme and USED TO work with Basel).
I still think Basel is somehow suppressing that specific error message.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Please contact the preorder plugin. Our support does not cover issues connected with the plugins.

nordlifeelinaParticipantHi,
I have contacted them, it’s not an issue with the plugin – its with the theme.
The preorder plugin used to work fine with your theme but then stopped working.
The plugin works with other themes but not your theme.

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
Please check the issue on Storefront theme to understand if our theme causes the problem.

nordlifeelinaParticipantHi
I have checked it on Storefront, I attached a screenshot above (couple of comments back). Storefront shows the correct error message, Basel doesn’t.
Thanks

Elise NoromitMemberHello,
I have checked to add a product with the Storefront theme and here is the result:
Basel theme: http://prntscr.com/nbpun1
Storefront theme http://prntscr.com/nbpvpb
Before adding the product I have deactivated AJAX adding to cart in Basel theme.
Now I activate it again and switch to the Basel theme.
Our theme does not influence the issue.
Best Regards
