When sharing the homepage to facebook the preview is a blank page (see attached). The developer tried to add it from json but facebook fetches the data earlier than jquery works. They have also discussed it with Facebook support.

This is the error message when debugging using facebooks tool:
“Inferred Property The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.”

    Hello,

Please find here details on the reason why your page is shared incorrectly and how to fix that: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-facebook-incorrect-thumbnail-issue-in-wordpress/

We already looked at this article and it’s not the solution. What is needed is a way to specify the OG tag for OG image.

You should be able to add it to the plugin proposed in the article. Here is a more accurate one that gives you the ability to add these tags manually with PHP snippet http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-add-facebook-open-graph-meta-data-in-wordpress-themes/

Maybe you should try Yoast SEO, a great plug in where you can set the default picture for Facebook share amongst other things.

I often have problem with this with my WordPress sites and I use the Facebook debug page to check and regenerate the image.

Hi @gueshu, thank you for your suggestion. Yes, it is one of the best solutions for this problem.

@gueshu @Artem – We have Yoast installed and configured.
We tried adding a default image in Yoast but it doesn’t show (see image of setting and image of code).
The problem is that the first image is the plain background from slider revolution and that’s the image the is being pulled by facebook (see attached).

    Hello,

“This image is used if the post/page being shared does not contain any images” means that this image will be shown in Facebook sharing provided no image has been set for a post.
I have checked a post: http://prntscr.com/js7udt it has a featured image which is used for sharing: http://prntscr.com/js7umd

If you want to see the image which you have set in “This image is used if the post/page being shared does not contain any images” delete all the featured images from all the posts.

There is one more useful option if you need featured image to be set in the post. You can set the featured image for a post and image for Facebook sharing http://prntscr.com/js7vah you will find this option in Yoast in the bottom of a post.

    Best Regards

Looks like deleting all the posts and the images that came with the theme solved the problem. Thanks.

    Hello,

That is the way Yoast works on any theme. Again, you can set the featured image for the post and an image for social networks.

    Best Regards
