lhughesParticipantHi,
Aplogies in advance for an issue I assume is outside of Woodmart, but I just wanted to check if there could be anything that may have affected my Favicon as I am getting desperate for a fix.So google just dropped my favicon about 4 weeks ago from search results, shopping etc… after showing it everywhere for the past couple of years. Nothing has changed on my end, google are not interested in helping, I triple checked everything, favicon checkers give me the green light.
I use RealFavicon (no support is available or povided) and I have the wordpress site identity image set up as a fall back.
It is just a complete mystery, and something as simple as a favicon has destroyed my business, consumers lose confidence with no favicon shown, my click through rate has dropped significantly as a result. It is devastating. Getting very desperate for a fix.
Is this something that may have popped up? Are there any possible theme settings or updates that could mess with google’s ability to pick up the favicon?
TIA

Aizaz Imtiaz AwanKeymasterHello,
I understand your frustration — favicons can have a surprisingly big impact. From the WoodMart theme side, there are no settings or updates that would block Google from picking up your favicon. The theme simply uses the WordPress Site Identity > Site Icon as the favicon fallback, which you already have set.
Please navigate to the Appearance > Customize > Site identity and set the icon for your site.
Google and all the search engines index and reindex pages with some period which can take more weeks, please give time to the search engines. It may take some time for Google to crawl your site and update the favicon on search results.

lhughesParticipantYes I have just removed wordpress built in favicon and realfavicon plugin, flushed out database and used favicon.pub to generate new files, uploaded them to root directory and added html tags to header using WPCode.
Fingers crossed this fixes it. Dont want to edit the header.php at this stage, hopefully WPCode does the work for me.
Cant believe how a small favicon can destroy your business. I love the disclaimer google gives you “despite doing everything correctly, google may still decide to not show your favicon”.
Let me know how you go?

Aizaz Imtiaz AwanKeymasterHello,
Thank you for the updates. From the WoodMart theme side, there is nothing that blocks favicons — the theme simply uses the WordPress Site Identity > Site Icon as a fallback.
It looks like you’ve implemented a solid solution by uploading the favicon files to the root and adding the HTML via WPCode. That is the recommended approach if you need SVGs or custom setups.
As you noted, Google may take several weeks to crawl your site and update search results, so please allow some time.
This is not related to the theme, and once indexed, your favicon should display correctly.
Best Regards,
