Grid Listing Image Swatch not changing Grid Image

We have products that have color swatches and size attributes used for variations. We have a different thumbnail picture for each however on the grid listing view it shows colors and when we click on one of the swatches it doesnt seem to fire off the ajax and the image doesnt change. The image on hover does swap with the 2nd image but is there a specific setting needed to make the color click change the thumbnail?
