How to know what image size and resolution you should use?

Hello, I have a problem with image resolution and size. I have a hard time uploading the right size images. They look so bad quality I can see pixels. I use Canva but I just don’t know how to adjust so images look high quality on website elements. I tried uploading like 1980 x 1080 images.
The things I am trying to change are the background of the slide (on the Woodmart motorcycle template) and I try uploading a long logo.
Any advice and guidance in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
