davidParticipantI have disable all plugins and set “Default product sorting” to “Sort by most recent”. When I now change the date of a variable product, to change its position in the store, nothing happens. It is working with simple products.

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
Thanks for reaching to us and appreciate your patience.
Could you please once check how it works with some default WordPress themes like WooCommerce Storefront to understand if it is our theme issue or not?

davidParticipantHi,
when I switch to TwentyTwenty Five, the order of the products is correct. I have enabled „Show single variation“ and „Hide variations parent“.

davidParticipantAlso when I use default sorting (custom ordering and name) in appearance > customize, this does not seem to work. Moving the products around in products > sorting does not have an effect.

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
Could you please record a short video and describe how we can reproduce the issue on your website so we can check this for you?
Thanks for your patience.

davidParticipantI have created a staging site and a user for you. It is the same user for another thread in this support forum, so maybe you have to be careful. When using the Storefront theme and setting „Default product sorting“ to „Popularity (sales)“ everything works fine. When activating Woodmart theme, sorting is not working.

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
This mishap occurred due to the
Show single variation
option, which adds variation products. In this case, the orders menu cannot work correctly
https://monosnap.com/file/9bW0Rk4HI8pD9xc7w3DjUvtv75nP5k It’s just a technical limitation with theShow single variation
option, you need to use either menu order or sorting in this situation.Regards,

davidParticipantOk, thank you!
Do I understand correctly, that sorting by sales or date is not working, with the „Show single variation“ enabled?
And what do you mean by „or sorting“? Is there another way to sort products than „menu order“?
April 10, 2025 at 2:17 pm #653079
davidParticipantUnder Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Product Catalog I have set Default product sorting to Default sorting (custom ordering + name). But if you check the backend of the staging site, click on Products > Sorting and compare the list with the frontend (shop), you can see that the first product and the second product (which has two variations) are not in the same order as in the backend list.

davidParticipantIt is actually not that complicated, when you follow exactly my the steps of the previous post (#653079). But I have recorded a video and you can find the link in the private content field.
Can you also please answer my question #653063?

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
Thanks for your patience.
As I explained in the previous reply. The default sorting can’t work properly with
Show single variation
option. You can disable that option and double check.Regards,
April 14, 2025 at 10:15 am #653813
davidParticipantBut you say „you need to use either menu order or sorting in this situation“. As you can see in the video, this is not working. Or what do you mean by that?
Either way, I think sorting is really important and it should be possible to sort products correctly, even if
Show single variation
option is enabled.April 15, 2025 at 7:58 am #654064
Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
Sorry for not being clear earlier. Currently, product sorting does not work the same way as the default behavior when the
Show single variation
option is enabled.Regards,
April 17, 2025 at 10:39 am #654869
davidParticipantOkay, are you going to fix this issue in the near future?
Because we need to show single variations and we want to sort the products in a way that makes sense. At the moment products are kind of randomly sorted, which is really not good for our customers.

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
You can create a future request here – https://woodmart.canny.io/feature-requests so our developers can take it into account.

April 22, 2025 at 7:21 pm #655914
davidParticipantI do not want to create an account at canny.io. And I don’t think that this is a simple feature request.
I think this is a serious issue. You should not offer the option to show single variations, if it breaks product sorting.
So it would be great if you can fix it or offer another solution.

Hung PhamKeymasterHi david,
Sorry, but there is no option in Theme Settings available for that.
It requires customizations, and this is beyond our limitations and support policy.
