Parts of site slow loading

Hello,

I have just finished my test site, purchased another license and moved it to my live site. As i have a big site i am using wp-rocket for caching and noticed that when i click on any category in the title section of the product archive pages it is loading slower than anything else on site. It seems to me that when selecting category from title section content / products is loaded using ajax, is that correct and if so is there any work around?

Hello,

Yes, WP Rocket caches full pages but if the content is loaded with AJAX, it doesn’t work. Unfortunately, we don’t have a solution for this.

Yes this is a bit disappointing, compared to my old theme that I have used for 2-3 years, the loading time has doubled and both pingdom and google pagespeed only show red numbers.

This is something weird as your theme is lighter and I have also removed 7-8 plugins that have now become redundant, and using less content/images on my frontpage.

Well, I have to go deeper into this and see if I can figure out what makes this installation so incredible slow compared to my old install.

I have done some more wierd but interesting findings. From pingdom and Gtmetrix i find that that my frontpage has more than 15 requests for google fonts -> Lato and in total 125 http requests.

I replaced all typography settings which used Lato with Roboto and this made a BIG difference. I got 1 sec better loading time, green lights with gtmetrix and only 118 http requests.

But still i have 7-8 google font requests for Lato but can not find anything using it. Any idea why it still request Lato font ?

Note that Lato may have 5-10 files for each different variation (400,700,300, italic, normal, bold etc.)

And the request you have found is poppins which i have removed so it should not be there at all. If you check with pingdom or gtmetrix you will still find 7-8 requests for Lato and these should not be there as i have removed Lato all over, even checked every banner, image text etc on frontpage and Lato is no longer used.

So why is it still requested?

Could you please disable all plugins that are not related to our theme and provide us your admin access so we can check it?

Sorry, i can not deactivate plugins in my live site. But i was to prepare my staging site for you, and this is an excact copy of my live site.

I changed all typography settings to use only Roboto and changes took effect immediately through the entire site and no Lato fonts is found loading. So this is really wierd why it is still loading in my live site even i have gone through fontpage and all html blocks and resaved just to be sure.

Why do you think Lato font is slowing down the site so much? I found the same with staging site, when i removed Lato and added Roboto i got 1.5sec faster loading time, and that is damn much.

Actually, it shouldn’t slow the website a lot. We use Google Fonts on all our demos and they don’t have much influence on the loading speed. Anyway, it is just another request to google server and our theme can’t cause any problems with that.

Yes it is wierd as when i check your demos i find only 2-3 requests for Lato but my site had 15 requests for Lato before i changed it to Roboto, after that i have 7-8 left. I see also when i use the option to generate css the new css generated has many instances where Lato still is used.

Ok, issue solved.. Replace Lato with Roboto gave me 1sec faster page load for some wierd reason and the extra Lato requests was from Tawk.to chat widget which i also deactivated and another 0.5 sec saved.

Case closed 🙂
