    Hi there,
Sorry, I don’t find how to make a photo gallery (grid) with captions.
    Kind regards

    Hello,

You would better use WP Bakery elements: Masonry media grid and Media grid http://prntscr.com/l88zdq

    Hello,
well, in that case, WPbakery adds a “read more” button. It seems really made for posts. I just want a gallery with captions. Any other suggestion?
    Best regards

    Hello,

Take Media grid element http://prntscr.com/l8c5nm set the design as shown and you will get the result as follows: https://gyazo.com/6d40462404867b99bbd3344ad34cf355

It’s too complicated, from user’s perspective. For 2 reasons:
    – it gives 2 info (caption + file name) instead of 1
    – You see caption via hovers – what is sthg that is not obvious / immediatealy visible, that you have to guess or find out.

So, in term of end result, I want a grid with caption below image. Sthg very simple and that, normally, wp gives

so, classid mode, add media, choose gallery, 4 columns and thumbnails

in the .. editor, I see what I’d like; the 4 colums, the thumbnails, the caption below each image

but when I edit the page, fully messed up, see attached
    the 4 columns disappear
the captions disappear and become sort of black line on the bottom of each photo

How can I get the basic photography gallery with captions below image from WP? What do I wrong?

    Hello,

Consider Information box or Promo Banner. Here are the demos:

    Promo Banner: https://woodmart.xtemos.com/banners/

    Information box: https://woodmart.xtemos.com/infobox/

Promo Banner is not appropriate (with texts over hiding pictures)
Info box, somehow, is like images one by one … I have 100 images, it’s a nightmare

Is it possible to have the native basic gallery of worpdress, in grid with captions below image?

    #84156

    Hello,

WP Bakery has a Grid Builder https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/learning-more/grid-builder/

You can build your own template. Then it will be listed in Design http://prntscr.com/l8l79w

Build your own template as per your needs.

Captions are not in the options listed there

    https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/learning-more/grid-builder/

Why is it not possible to have the original gallery from WP? why is it altered?

    #84218

    Hello,

What original gallery from WP do you mean. Yes, you can use it if it has a shortcode and it is supported by WP Bakery Page builder.

The basic gallery from WP is this one mentioned at the begining

create page / classic WP mode
    add media / gallery

Meaning not using bakery, but the normal wordpress menu (classic)
Here, the captions can be manually written in editor, or automatically integrated if they were in the media library

    Hello,

Create a page, switch to the Classic mode and add the gallery http://prntscr.com/l8wg6r

Find out how to do that: https://themeisle.com/blog/create-a-gallery-in-wordpress/

For me, it’s exactly what I did, and explained to be failing in my first post above

    Let’s, maybe, be concrete
I made a page called aaaa
You will see the gallery, simple. Everything in OK in editor, view matches parameters.
    But when published, completely transformed
    Have a look please,
    Kind regards

    Hello,

Yes, that is the way the default WordPress gallery works. Our theme does not have any options to influence that.

OK, I understand what you write, but why doesn’t it work?
It looks as if something was over-ruling

    #84455

    Hello,

It may be the conflict. We have not tested the default WP gallery because WP Bakery Page builder has a set of options for the purpose.

as a developer, you can believe that it’s wonderful to have a gallery with hover, sparkles, parallax, etc
But for the vast majority of readers, a basic gallery with captions is the easiest to read and surf.

It’s like sliders. It’s wondeful, but most readers skip them.

So, what can I do that simple gallery with captions?

    #84507

    Hello,

I have mentioned all the available options to realize it:

    Image gallery by WP Bakery

    Image gallery by WoodMart

Grid Builder allowing create your own template.

None of them enables to make a simple gallery with captions below images.
Only solution I see is to do it image per image.
    Am I wrong?

    #84533

    Hello,

The Grid Builder from WP Bakery does http://prntscr.com/l9feb2

Read here how to do that: https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/learning-more/grid-builder/

    1. You make it on a single block http://prntscr.com/l9ffo8

    2. http://prntscr.com/l9fg1g

    3. http://prntscr.com/l9fgan

    4. You can choose your custom grid template in the element. http://prntscr.com/l9fgsc

    Elise,
Your last screenshot is “post excerpt”. The items from wp bakery also relate to posts.
The elements that you can add in boxes of the editor are single image or text or icon, or relate to posts. Not relating to galleries.
It took me, well, too much time till I imagine that “post except” could be the “image description” and then caption. Or that “post title” could be interpreted as “image title”. And then progressively understand the whole puzzle, ie the role and possible interpretation of texts and menus.
now i get it; and another issue:
on top, a gallery made 1 photo by photo. 150×150 on screen – cropped from images that are squares between 500 and 800 pixels.
on the bottom, the masonry using your …. trick. Photos have cc same size on screen than the ones aboves, but they are blurred … quality is very poor compared to those above. They are coming from squares with 1700 px borders. ie supposedly much better (96 dpi)

=> how to get a masonry with good image quality (as above with single images)?

    Kind regards

    Hello,

The Media Grid displays images, posts, custom posts, products, and many other items in the grid with the possibility to create your own template. If you follow the instructions I have provided you will get image gallery with the caption. In this case “post excerpt” will show captions, “Post title” will show image title.

Yes, I know that WP Bakery Page builder is quite complicated and takes time to master, that is why I provided screenshots to save your time.

Could you please give a hint re. photo quality ? refering to my last message before this one
    Kind regards

    Hello,

Leve the field with image size empty or insert full. Upload images big enough and proportional.
