Popularity sorting issue with variable products

Hello,
I noticed that sorting by Popularity doesn’t always reflect real sales. For example, some products with only 2 sales appear above others with many more sales. This mainly happens with variable products, since sales are stored on variations and not on the parent product.

Does WoodMart alter the default WooCommerce popularity query (maybe via Show Single Variations or Out-of-Stock Manager)?
Is there a way to make popularity consider the sum of variation sales, or to disable any custom query changes for orderby=popularity?
