Problem with Single Product Layout Gallery main image

Hello,
I’ve encountered a weird problem with the image gallery on the Single Product page.
When I view the product for the first time, the loaded main image is 400×600
When I choose any variation – the image changes to the “scaled” version – better quality.
When I clear the variation, the image stays on the “scaled” version.
After refreshing the page, it goes back to the 400×600 and it is very bad quality.
There’s no problem with the lightroom version in any case.
It looks like the theme has a problem with the first image render.
Can you please investigate the case? It can be clearly seen that the variation and variation-not-chosen images are totally different size.
