Selecting Product Option Changes Photo

This just started happening with the new WooCommerce 3.5 update today, and I see that one of the Basel theme files needs to be updated:

basel/woocommerce/single-product/product-image.php version 3.3.2 is out of date. The core version is 3.5.0

And perhaps that will solve this issue. However, if we can get this fixed sooner than that I’d appreciate it.

This affects every product with size and/or color attributes. What happens is this: I select an option (either size or color) the product image changes to a square, low-quality version of the product. If I then clear the options, the image goes back to the proper size and quality image. As I said before, this is brand new behavior. Not ideal for our customers.

The images attached show the before selected, after selected and cleared state of the product images.

Upload bigger images and check the issue.

But we’ve changed nothing – is there a way to “turn off” second images? Why would we eant that enabled?

Make sure you have uploaded a big image to variation.

Do you have the same problem with other products?

Yes, all products with options/variations. What I don’t understand is why this is happening now (never an issue before today) and why we need to use it? Why can’t the image just stay the same?

We do not load a new image for every option. We just keep the images the same.

Hey Matt, let’s hope it gets resolved quickly. Considering the outdated Basel file is called “basel/woocommerce/single-product/product-image.php” it seems logical that it might be the cause.

I have the same issue ! All the articles of my store are showing blurry pictures when I select any variation. Yet, all the pictures I’ve uploaded were very high quality. And they used to show without problem. It’s just suddenly that it happened, for I don’t know why! Examples below :
