Jeriss Cloud CenterParticipantIn WP Rocket, we have a feature called “Separate cache for mobile devices” whose descriptions says :
“Most modern themes are responsive and should work without a separate cache. Enable this only if you have a dedicated mobile theme or plugin.”
In a support thread, I saw that WP Rocket support thinks we should enable it, but I want your opinion first.
https://github.com/wp-media/wp-rocket/issues/4376
Should we enable this with WoodMart or no?
Thanks

Luke NielsenKeymasterHello,
That option is compatible with the theme especially it is usable with our “Mobile DOM optimization (experimental)” option. https://prnt.sc/kG2NM4kMcbw3

Jeriss Cloud CenterParticipantHi Luke,
Ok thanks, but that “Mobile DOM optimization” is marked as experimental. What is status of this “experimental” how good is it for Live production websites?
THanks

Luke NielsenKeymasterHello,
Of course, at first, I suggest testing it on the staging website but in general, if you use the “Mobile DOM optimization” with the “Separate cache for mobile devices” option from WP Rocket, it should work well because the cache plugin loads separate cache files for desktop and mobile.
If the cache plugin uses only 1 cache file for desktop and mobile, it can cause some issues related to the header, therefore the option is experimental.

Jeriss Cloud CenterParticipantOk then what about Tablets that :
– in landscape mode have a resolution loading desktop view
– in portrait mode have a resolution loading tablet viewHow is this handled then by your DOM feature?

Luke NielsenKeymasterHello,
Those resolutions are handled by the “Separate cache for mobile” option, which detects mobile devices regardless of screen size or orientation. So our option will work well even on the landscape mode or the portrait mode.

Jeriss Cloud CenterParticipantYa I understand, but my point is the following.
Put yourself in the shoes of a random user who has such a tablet (that in landscape loads desktop view, and in portrait loads mobile). With separate mobile cache & dom optimization, this user is supposed to RELOAD the page when moving from landscape to portrait with such a tablet correct? Or will it work well when rotating its tablet WITHOUT reloading the page ?

Luke NielsenKeymasterHello,
It depends on the dimensions of the devices, in any case, would be better to reload the page.

Jeriss Cloud CenterParticipantI know it would be better to reload the page, but those users don’t know/care about it. They are just random users, and you can’t tell users “hey user, you’re using a high-resolution tablet and since you rotated your tablet from landscape to portrait, you need to reload the page”
how do you want to explain that to random users? random users will be like “what’s this website, it just doesn’t work…” couldn’t there be an auto-refresh of the page by the theme when the page is rotated on such tablet resolution ?

Luke NielsenKeymasterHello,
If you do not like such behavior, you may not enable the “Mobile DOM Optimization” option. In general, adding such “auto-refresh” functionality is not yet planned.
Kind Regards
