Single Post Layout Editor

We just upgraded to the latest woodmart theme. It looks like Layouts has a new feature where I get to create layouts for blog posts! yay! super excited about that.
However, when I create a new layout for wpbakery for a single blog post, I don’t seem to have the elements to add to the page listed in my wpbakery list of elements.
If I use a predefined layout and try to edit it with the wpbakery editor, all of the shorcodes in the layout are dumped into a text element in wpbakery editor. So I can’t edit and move things around.
Am I missing something on how this works?
