What would you suggest to speed up our website?

Testing this page is giving about a 3 second server response time…

    https://www.ukcontractflooring.co.uk/category/carpettiles/

I have WP fastest cache installed.

We have checked this page response time and it is 1.7s https://gyazo.com/066eb68d6d883b04f5ffa80dd0f258ea
It is a normal response time while you don’t have any caching mechanism yet. We recommend you use WP Rocket to improve your website performance and reduce the server response time to 100-200ms.

On GTMetix we are getting and E or F grade & about 35%. Google also say our site is very slow.

It looks like mainly the initial load time is very slow.

    Hello,

In general, our theme is already optimized and doesn’t have too many resources to make your website slow. Most likely, your website performance suffers from the content you have added to your website. It may happen in case of too many plugins, large not optimized images, or other resources. So we suggest you remove unnecessary plugins, install some kind of JS & CSS optimizing plugins like Better WordPress Minify and a caching plugin like WP Super Cache or use WP Rocket for both tasks. Also, you can use the GTmetrix tool to see what makes your website slow and optimize these parts of your website.

    Kind Regards

There is a file: https://www.ukcontractflooring.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/xts-theme_settings_default-1623837999.css which seems to be referencing an image named array, but it’s getting a 404 error.

This is part of the reason of the initial slow page loads.

As the url suggests is there something in the theme settings that is causing this?

    Thanks.

Please, disable your caching plugins and send us your admin and FTP access so we can check what is wrong.

We have removed these values. Please, check how it works now and try to configure some theme settings.

Ok the 404 error has gone, but now the site is loading even slower than before.

Can you see what is slowing the site down so much?

Could you please disable all external plugins temporarily so we can check your website performance?

We see that some plugins are still installed. Also, could you please update WoodMart to the latest 6.0.4 version?

I disabled the other plugins. Maybe you just need to refresh.

If I upgrade it won’t it break some edits I’ve already made?

If you didn’t make any changes in the core them files then you wouldn’t lose anything after the update. The update is necessary since it fixes a few JS errors.

I’m not sure what the core theme files are, but I can tell you…

I know I have made changes to the functions.php file, the files for request a quote extension, and added custom css to your theme settings.

We recommend you to backup the functions.php file (or the whole theme/website). Then you will be able to apply your changes after the update. Your custom CSS in Theme Settings will not be lost.

    1. Go to Dashboard -> Updates and click on “Check again” button.

    2. Then you will be able to update the theme from Appearance -> Themes.

I’ve updated the theme, and it seems to have slowed it down a bit more.

Can you see what’s going wrong?

We have tested your website and found a few problems that you should fix first to speed up your website.

    1. There are some errors loading resources on your website. Probably, they are caused by your hosting server or installed plugins. https://gyazo.com/a0c483b6c8d9281cffadc51631050d63

    2. Your home page size is 4MB+ which is too much. It may be due to large not optimized images, JS, CSS files, plugins etc. https://gyazo.com/2ef08446d24bd32529521ce771c2ac53

    3. Turn off all third-party plugins first and optimize your website. Then, add necessary plugins one by one and check the speed accordingly.

    4. Use WP Rocket plugin to optimize your website’s JS, CSS. Currently these options are turned off.

    5. Use some CDN service like KeyCDN.

    Kind Regards
