Theme & Plugin Update Procedure

Hi, I am using a child theme and I just wanted to clarify theme and plugins update procedure as my plugins don’t seem to be updating, I am still at visual composer 4.2.

When using a child theme, do I need to switch back to the parent Basel theme to update theme?

I use the automatic procedure to update the theme (easy plugins and theme updates plugin). I assumed updated plugins would also install from the theme install-able file and I would them just update them from wordpress admin.

Do I need need to extract the plugins that need updating from the theme download file and install them individually to update to the latest versions?

Thank you for the questions.

No, you don’t need to switch from child theme to parent in order to update your theme. And yes, you need to extract plugins from theme archive and update them manually. Another way is to remove Visual Composer completely and reinstall it via Appearance -> Install Plugins section.
