Hi, is it possible to translate only the frontend strings with Loco Translate or PoEdit? I don’t want to view all available strings in one place, but I’d prefer to filter them. Thank you.

e.g. there is a string “view cart” which is a frontend string. I want to translate all frontend strings without the backend strings – e.g. Woodmart, Theme options, etc.

    Hi vynil,

If so, you don’t need to select the language for the backend and theme settings for admin from the admin user profile. Yes you can by going to WP dashboard > Users > All Users > find your username and click Edit > in Personal Options section, change the language to whatever language you want. This way, your backend language can be different than your frontend language.

    Hi,

But in this way, I will see the frontend strings in the language I’m using for my profile as well, no? I mean if I change the language to English for my user, I will see the English strings on frontend as well, but I want to translate the theme for another language, not English.

We’re currently facing a problem where multiple strings share the same name (e.g., “product”) in different parts of the system (frontend vs. backend). This causes confusion for translators, as they can’t tell which string corresponds to the frontend UI and which one is for admin panel (setting etc). This ambiguity increases the risk of incorrect translations and slows down the overall localization process.

    Hey there Hung,

Please try to find one string e.g. product. You will find out that there’s no tooltip which is the correct string that you are looking for. You can translate product, but it might be the string in the dashboard, not in the frontend.

You don’t need access to reproduce that.

    Hi vynil,

    Thanks for your patience.

I fully understood that you followed instructions but somehow it didn’t work, so I need admin credentials to check it more deeply.

Why do you need credentials? Please create a short video how it looks like on your end and explain where exactly you see the explanation of the string you want to translate.

    Hi Hung,

The issue is not site-specific, so you don’t need access to my website. Please go to your test website and you will reproduce the issue on your end – there are no frontend or backend marked strings that can tell you what exactly you are translating.

    Hi vynil,

According to the video, it is related to front-end translation.

For e.g: %s product represents for number, for e.g: 1 product or 2 products.

OK, but how do you know that? I have to translate 3 strings of products to end up with right string translated. That’s what I’m trying to say here – there’s no way to see which string you are translating. You are plying a Russian roulette game.

    Hi vynil,

    Thanks for your patience.

Your question is a bit unclear to me. there’s no way to see which string you are translating and yes, you need to translate in the back-end then check on front-end to see the changes.

That’s what I’m trying to explain from a few days already. You should provide an explanation at least for the strings appearing multiple times such as Products, Products, products, products, Products and etc.

    Hi vynil,

Unfortunately, this is out of WoodMart controls. Loco Translate only lists all strings for translating only.

    Hi Hung,

That’s not true. You, as developers, can add an explanation of each string. That’s what I’m asking from the very beginning. Can you please check with your developers, they will be able to explain that.

    Hi vynil,

There is no way to add explanation to each string, I hope you can understand.

I never said each string. I said this:

You should provide an explanation at least for the strings appearing multiple times such as Products, Products, products, products, Products and etc.

    Hi vynil,

As I explained above, all strings appear in the list of translate plugin will show up in the front-end, so it is impossible to add descriptions next to strings. But, if you really to do that and don’t use source strings as main language, you can try below trick:

Edit the PO file to change source strings, for e.g: %s Products – This is used to display number of products.

    Hung PD

OK, you mean that the users should create this even if they don’t really know every string. You can close the ticket.
