Variant images vanish if i have over X amount of variants

The image swatches is working fine untill i have over X amount of variants in a product. I dont know the specific amount but i know that this product was broken at 36 variants but after deleting 9 variants (3 from each color) its working fine: https://footfolk.dk/product/test-copy/
Here is an example of a broken product:

Same exact product, only difference is that all variants are added. When the variant swatches break it turns the swatch image into the fallback image for all variants even if it was showing the correct image before.

So what happens is that if i have 30 or less variants in a product then everything works fine (See image 1)
But if i add just a single extra variant. (So 31 or above) then the images in the swatchs stop showing (Image2)
Why is this happening? there is almost no plugins on the site.

Please navigate to Theme Settings -> Shop -> Variable products and increase the “AJAX variation threshold” field at least to 100.
