weltdooParticipantWe have already contacted you regarding the issues with the webshop (zavarivanje.info) running on your WordPress theme, but the problems have continued over time. Below is a message from my colleague:
We are experiencing significant performance issues on our WooCommerce store running the Woodmart theme, and I would appreciate your guidance.
Our WooCommerce shop currently has: 729 product attributes 7,405 attribute values (terms) 24,169 active product variations. These are the real, active combinations of attributes (color, size, model, etc.) that customers can select on our product pages (is there any limitations in variations number regarding the theme?)This number of attributes and active variations is causing serious performance and stability issues on our shop, both on the frontend and backend. Some of the main problems we are experiencing include:
• High server resource usage: Editing or updating products with many variations consumes large amounts of RAM and CPU, sometimes causing PHP-FPM processes to crash or be killed.
• Slow product editing in admin: The WordPress admin becomes very slow or even unresponsive when managing products with many variations or when performing bulk actions.
• Long import/export times: Importing, exporting, or updating products (especially via plugins like WP All Import) often results in timeouts or incomplete processes.
• Frontend slowdowns: Filtering, searching, or loading product archive pages with so many variations can be very slow, sometimes resulting in errors or timeouts for customers.
• High risk of errors: We frequently encounter timeout errors, 500 errors, and warnings about PHP limits being reached (memory_limit, max_input_vars, etc.).
• Cache issues: Even with object/page caching enabled, the sheer amount of data makes it hard to fully optimize performance. We have already increased all PHP and server limits to very high values and are running on a high-performance dedicated cloud server, but these issues persist due to the scale of our catalog.
Server specs:
• Hetzner Cloud CCX23
• 4 dedicated vCPU
• 16 GB RAM
• Dedicated for this website (no other heavy sites running)The problem:
Whenever we bulk edit products, import/export, or update products with a lot of variations and attributes, our server resources (CPU and RAM) spike to 100%. Sometimes PHP-FPM processes are stuck or killed due to memory exhaustion. Even basic product editing can be very slow, and frontend filters can put heavy load on the server.
We have already increased all relevant PHP and server limits (memory_limit, max_input_vars, PHP-FPM children, etc.), but the issues persist due to the scale of attributes and variations.
My questions:
1. Does Woodmart have any built-in optimization or recommended settings for stores with this many attributes/variations?
2. Is there any way to improve backend/product editor or frontend filter performance with Woodmart in this scenario?
3. Are there best practices or plugins you recommend for such high-volume WooCommerce shops using Woodmart, to avoid server overload?
We are open to any advice, performance tweaks, or third-party plugins/extensions that can help stabilize server usage and improve user/admin experience.
Thank you very much for your help!July 10, 2025 at 9:40 am #672794
Artem TemosKeymasterHello,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. I understand that you are facing substantial performance issues with your WooCommerce store, and I am here to assist.
The issues you are experiencing, such as high server resource usage, slow admin performance, and frontend slowdowns, primarily relate to the functioning and performance management of WooCommerce rather than directly to the WoodMart theme. WoodMart is designed to be highly optimized, but the number of attributes and active variations you are handling can push the limits of WooCommerce itself.
1. While WoodMart does not include specific built-in optimizations for managing large numbers of attributes and variations, you can consider using features such as lazy loading for images to reduce frontend load times slightly.
2. To help with both backend and frontend performance, I recommend optimizing your WooCommerce setup. Utilize object caching and database optimization plugins. Specifically, a plugin like Query Monitor can help you identify database queries that are slowing down your site.
3. Consider employing caching plugins such as “WP Rocket” and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to reduce server loads.
As a best practice, ensure your PHP and server limits are configured to support this high volume of data processing, though it seems you have already taken steps in this direction. Sometimes further consultation with a server management expert may help if server-side configurations need an advanced setup.
For detailed advice specific to WooCommerce’s capabilities and handling extensive product data, I recommend contacting WooCommerce support or checking their official documentation.
Please feel free to share any further questions or issues.
Kind regards
