In the preview demo the blog page has a sidebar with recent posts, comments, & other widgets. On my site only the posts are showing up with no sidebar. How do i enable the sidebar options?

Please Go to Theme Settings >> Blog and set the layout.

Changeling the layout has no effect- i tried all 3 options.

Also, all of my pages show html code: [html_block id="258"] what is causing this?

Your issue has been resolved. Please clear cache and check back. You can add widgets to the Main Widget area under Appearance >> Widgets.

Thanks that fixed it. Also i notice my homepage is blank- how do i go about making it look more like the demo? Is there a preset i can use?
