On the Blog individual l posts page how do I get the side menu to show, and how do I configure which options it displays ?

I have turned on sidebar in the theme settings but nothing displays.

You can firstly go to Dashboard > Theme Settings > Blog > and there select the layout with Sidebar either left one or right one: https://snipboard.io/BjXWfH.jpg

Then you can go to Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > there you can find the Main Widget Area > in that you can add your choice of widgets to show in the sidebar: https://snipboard.io/WQfMCA.jpg
