Copy header/footer.php to child theme

Hi,
I want to add code to both header.php and footer.php. I know plugins are available but I want to keep my website as streamlined as possible as already have many plugins. I also do not want updates to code to be wiped with update. I am running child theme to stop this happening from beginning.

Yes, you can copy files into the child theme. Do not delete any files from the parent theme. Yes, the child theme customization overwrites the parent theme and remains after the parent theme update.

That’s great thank you. I know Google Tag Manager tags for <head> go in header.php i think that is where <body> tags go also
