There are four types of display format. I wonder how they are exposed when choosing each format.

The Product Categories Display Type options determine what is shown on the category pages:

Decide what is shown on the category’s landing page. Choosing “default” uses your theme’s default. “Subcategories” will display only the subcategories. “Products” only displays products. “Both” will display subcategories then products below that.
