    Hello,
    On my original version (French), as product page detail, I chose ” default” (theme settings / product page). And the name of the variation are then visible.
    On the version translated (English), the name of the variation is not visible.
    To make it visible, wpml gave me this code

    <wpml-config>
    <custom-fields>
    <custom-field action=”copy” label=”Product Design”>_basel_product_design</custom-field>
    <custom-field action=”copy” label=”Product layout”>_basel_main_layout</custom-field>
    </custom-fields>
    </wpml-config>

    It works but I have to reload each product page, change sthg, save …. in terms of productivity, when you have 200 or 300 products, it’s a terrible waste of time.
    WPML answered me:
    the configuration for the custom meta is missing in the theme, if it was already provided by the theme then this process is not needed at all. Any new configuration added after the translation is done requires the original content to be updated, Since the translations take reference from the configuration rules and the content, If the rules are missing the translations will skip the fields

    So, is it possible to add this configuration for the custom meta in theme?

    Hello,

    Could you please check how it works with some default WordPress theme like twentysixteen to understand is it our theme issue or not?

    We set the default theme to check and as we can see with the default theme activated, the variation also doesn’t have a label.

    Hello,

    Please try this snippet:

    .product-design-alt table.variations tr {
        display: -webkit-box;
        display: -ms-flexbox;
        display: flex;
        -webkit-box-orient: vertical;
        -webkit-box-direction: normal;
        -ms-flex-direction: column;
        flex-direction: column;
        -webkit-box-align: stretch;
        -ms-flex-align: stretch;
        align-items: stretch;
        margin-bottom: 10px;
    }
    .product-design-alt table.variations tr:last-child {
        margin-bottom: 0px;
    }
    body .product-design-alt .variations td.label {
        display: block;
        padding-bottom: 0;
    }
    body .product-design-alt .variations label {
          margin-right: 0px;
            margin-bottom: 10px;
    }

    You will get this label https://prnt.sc/m4irzu

    Hello,

    Considering what you answered, I am wondering if we understood each other. So, let’s check.

    The target is to be like it is in default theme (eg storefront) or with basel, like pictue above issue29b.jpg
    To get this on theme, I need to choose “default” as product page design (in theme settings).

    When I am translating NOW in other languages NOW, it’s OK / perfect, thanks to the code that wpml sent me, and that you have above.
    But this script does not update all what I translated before. In other words, to get it as I want, I need to open / load / save / wait / clean cache on all already translated products. 200 products x 30 seconds = cc 2H of work minimum.

    On this point, WPML argued that it’s because of theme, that misses something (see above).

    what you propose me is – apparently- to change the location for the variation name on product page. For me, it’s useless, and complicating the reading (If Asians read top / bottom, we, in Europe and North America, read left to right).

    So, what you are proposing me, is that simply to update correctly what was already translated, and to change the layout of all products?

    Kind regards

    PS: in your last message, there is a picture. I changed this page as I explained (open /save / clean cache), so that you compare

    Hi,

    For now, by default, you are using “Alternative” design of single product page that has centred layout and on which attribute labels are hidden by CSS. To show attribute labels on all the products you need to choose “Default” single product page layout in theme settings.

    About WPML attribute translation. We started to study the problem on your site, but all the products you provided are already translated. Please provide us test product that we can translate by yourself and investigate the issue.

    Here are different products that are still not translated yet.

    Maybe I missed some but they shall all have the default product page layout

    Hello,

    We have checked your site. In order to test how WMPL translations are works on your site, we have removed translation from following product https://polinacouture.com/produit/trousse-tissu-liberty-motif-frise-florale-bleu-byrne/ (https://prnt.sc/m58xix).

    After some testing, we figured out that some of WMPL settings are configured or working wrong on your site, because, in String Translation section, in which custom attributes need to be translated, your french product attributes (for ex. Taille) is marked as English attributes and in result you can translate it only to the French language (https://prnt.sc/m58znd). In that case, you can’t change attribute status on English language and it stays empty.

    We have checked the default storefront theme and the problem is also present in it:
    Woodmart FR: https://prnt.sc/m58ybb
    Woodmart EN: https://prnt.sc/m58xur
    Storefront FR: https://prnt.sc/m58xxp
    Storefornt EN: https://prnt.sc/m58y09

    You need to check your WPML settings or contact WPML support to fix this issue since it is not related to our theme.

    Hello,
    Yes, on this one, where translation was missing, I understand but it does not explain the following.

    Look at this item:
    https://polinacouture.com/produit/ceinture-a-nouer-obi-brocart-soie-bleu-marine-vert/
    Attachement issue30a – the name of the variation (Largeur au choix) is visible.

    If I switch to English translation via language switcher, the name is disappearing
    Attachement issue30b

    If I check the product page setting, it’s well set on “default”, for product page design
    Attachement issue30c

    If I then switch to storefront, for theme, then the name of the variation is visible in French, (as for basel theme), but also in English.
    Attachement issue30d

    I have the same phenomenon for instance on this item
    https://polinacouture.com/en/product/black-obi-waist-belt-leopard-jacquard-solid/

    Again, since WPML gave me the code mentioned on top, now, each time I add a new translation, the name of the variation is present in both English and original French Version. But it does not change the layout on the items that were translated BEFORE WPML gave me this code.
    And according to them, it’s because of something missing in the theme (which is present in a default theme like storefront).

    Hope that this message will help us to be on same wave length, and sorry again, I really would prefer us to spend time on other topics

    Kind regards

    Hi,

    By default, our theme has four single page design: “Default”, “Alternative”, “Image Scroll” and “Compact”.

    On “Alternative” single page design variation labels were hidden via CSS because such design layout we choose during developing of Basel theme and it is not related to the WPML setting.

    In the following screenshot (https://xtemos.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/issue30c.jpg), you show the single product design option only for one french product, but in theme settings (http://prntscr.com/m5dyrk) of your site, you set “Alternative” design global option all products. Set “Default” product page design in theme settings to change product page design for all products.

    As we mentioned before (https://xtemos.com/forums/topic/issue-on-the-layout-of-the-variations/#post-101071) the issue with WPML have the same behaviour in on other themes and is not related to our theme.

    Thank you.

    So, at the end of the game, the issue is not linked with WPML, it’s caused because the product page design are between:
    1. the Theme overall theme settings (where I chose alternative),
    and 2. the product setting where I chose default.
    Correct?

    The fact that the name of the variations is displayed in “default” and not in “alternative” or “inherit” is weird for me …. how could the reader / buyer guess what the choice relates to? Imagine if the variables are just measures ie 10cm / 12cm …. it’s impossible to surely know what they relate to. And a buyer who does not understand immediately, goes away in few seconds.

    Further, this impact and difference between those options are not visible on your demo, and clearly not mentioned in your doc.

    Kind regards

    sorry, it is visible on demo, it’s not a doc. I am more doc than demo 🙁

    Hi,

    If in future you will need to display labels on Alternative single product design you can copy custom CSS code that we gave you earlier (https://xtemos.com/forums/topic/issue-on-the-layout-of-the-variations/#post-100749) to the Custom CSS filed area in Theme Settings.

    We also will consider changing attributes labels visibility in our future updates.

    Hi,

    THe key issue is rather that it was hard to find the cause of the problem. It was not obvious.
    I say that as a user, and because of this too long discussion.

    Indeed, the problem was a mismatch between general layout (overall menu) and specific layout (product level). 2 points here:
    1. When there is no translation, the product layout is winning. But on translated versions, the general layout is winning. It’s not logic and confusing. Confusing everybody.
    2. in my opinion – and man can disagree- is that product layout should be considered as exceptions (vs general setting), and thus over-rule the general setting in all cases.

    Last, as a seller, my experience is that most buyers will NOT try to understand what buyer suggests, or lets guess. It has to be simple and straightforward. From that perspective, I would suggest that, by default, product are shown, but user could tick -or not- “hide name of variation”. It’s also true that, when the choice is really obvious, there is no reason to overload the layout with useless text. As a user, again, and repeating I am an ignorant newbie, it’s very tough to notice the difference -in your demo- between ” alternative” and “default”. The difference is there, but does not stand out…. for me.

    Hope this helps,
    Kind regards

    PS: now, it works as I wanted, thank you very much for that!
