    I was having the same issues so I performed your suggestion as above and it worked.

    But the bigger issue I have is I only updated my staging site. I need to update my live site, and since I cannot migrate at the moment for unrelated reasons, can I do this same process on the live site without affecting anything, or can i safely ignore the update until I can migrate? Live site seems to be working fine.

    Hello,

    Please make the full backup of your live site, then make the export of the theme settings. Make backup (just notes and configuration) of all your widgets in the Appearance > Widgets and update the theme. Try to update it with the common way, if you have the problem, then follow the steps.
