Outdated template

Hi

Hope you are well.
I have a notification on my site status to say that my template is outdated and needs to be uodated. (image for reference)
I initially had the main woodmart theme installed on my site and I was informed that I needed to have the woodmart child theme installed.
When I installed the child theme, my entire website changed and I had a lot of unnecessary HTML blocks, pages etc that I needed to manually remove

I want to know how do I update the template and what are the chances that the same would happen, where my website will get messed with and have a lot more new and unnecessary things
