Overlay for search bar

Question using your demo as an example: https://woodmart.xtemos.com/games/
When you are hovering over an menu item there is a background overlay so the background is darkend. Can i achieve the same effect with css/javascript when using a standard product search form in the menu (like in https://woodmart.xtemos.com/home/)?
