Product alignment – Variable alongside Simple

Please see the attached screenshots. This shows a mixture of variable and simple products in a grid, due to the inability to add swatches to simple products, it looks messy with the add to cart buttons in different places.

How can I get the alignment corrected so that product title, price and button are all aligned on the same row, leaving space for the swatch area on products that don’t have them?

If you show the swatches on the grid, it is not possible to align all product types in one line.
