I have deactivated all the plugins not related to the theme and checked: the sidebar and hover effect:

As you can see everything works. Most likely there is a plugin conflict. Please enable the plugins one by one to detect which one causes the problem.
When you update the theme, all the plugins should be also updated. In addition, you have the child theme customization. The customization could be effective for the previous versions at the same time, the updated theme may conflict.
We would recommend checking the plugins and detecting if there is a conflict. Then copy all the customization from functions.php of the child theme into a separate file, then add snippet by snippet and check which one causes the problem.
When the site has few plugins and no customization update almost never causes any break. In most cases, a lot of plugins and customization lead to problems after the update.
