Variation image swatches not visible

I have turned on the variation image swatches option in the theme settings. Basically forcing it to show clickable images instead of the variation dropdown. But for some reason it still shows the dropdown and yes, i did assign images to the variations.

Does that mean the image can only be set on a attribute level? Not on a variation level?

That would be a bit stupid, because i have thousands of products in my store and many have the same attribute names. But i don’t want to set the same image for them… Usually with swatch plugins it should show the image of the variation, not only from the attribute.

Right now it means when 2 products have the attribute term “Apple” then i cant set 2 different images for them… This logic makes sense for color swatches, because “Blue” is blue and “Green” is green. But a global image for a attribute is useless.

To activate swatches, you first need to set global image for default image swatches.

In case you want to make image swatches make sense, then you should create more global image swatches attribute. Then, you can change image swatches to override images on variations level.
